She is best known for her comedy roles in several classic Hollywood films of the 1930s, most notably her role as Irene Ballack in My Servant Godfrey in 1936, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. In January 1942, Carol Lombard took part in the Liberty bond tour - raising money for the war effort through war bonds. After taking off from Las Vegas, the pilot was unable to gain sufficient altitude and the Trans World Airlines plane crashed into Mount Potosi. All on board were killed (22 people).
