Born July 3, 1946, Canton, China is a Chinese actor, director, producer, bodybuilder and martial artist.
Like many other young Chinese, Bolo began to study kung fu with local masters. In addition, he became interested in acrobatics and weight lifting. Contrary to popular belief, Bolo was not a Shotokan karate champion and never practiced this kind of martial arts.
In the mid-1960s, Bolo moved to Hong Kong in search of new opportunities by swimming across the strait. In a new place, he opened a bodybuilding school and soon came to the attention of one of the agents of the Shaw brothers studio, who invited him to star in a movie. The more Bolo “pumped up”, the more serious the roles became. In 1970 Bolo won the title of "Mr. Hong Kong", and a year later said goodbye to Shaw Studio.
Bolo met Bruce Lee while auditioning for a commercial for Winston cigarettes. A friendly relationship developed between them, and in 1973 Bruce Lee invited him to his film "Enter the Dragon". Later Bolo starred in several kung fu action films, but his most famous role was the villain Chong Lee in the American film studio Cannon Films "Bloodsport", where his partner was Jean-Claude Van Damme. After this role and in the future, Bolo developed the image of the classic "muscle villains" on the screen, and one of his few roles as a goodie was his work in the films "Biggest Blow", "Biggest Blow 2" and "Policeman 2000".
Ian's last significant role was the 2007 film "Close Fight", filmed jointly by the US and Kazakhstani crews, which, however, did not make it to the wide screen or video. In 2008, Bolo officially retired from the cinema, while retaining his position as Chairman of the Hong Kong Physical Education Commercial Organization and Manager of the Taipei International Bodybuilding Association.
