Born in Palo Alto, California, USA on August 11, 1962.
From childhood he showed interest in animation and theater. He studied at the Palo Alto Children's Theater, took part in the performances of a drama club in high school, after graduating from which he continued his studies at the California Institute of Arts in Valencia (California, USA).
In 1983 he was hired by Walt Disney Studio, during which he took part in the creation of the cartoons Black Cauldron (1985), The Great Mouse Detective (1986), The Little Mermaid (1989) and some others.
He made his independent directing debut with the short films Tammy's Trouble (1989) and Roller Coaster Rabbit (1990). Robert got the opportunity to create a full-length cartoon only four years later. But what a cartoon it was! Their joint work with Roger Allers "The Lion King" (1994), which became a favorite cartoon for several generations of children around the world, grossed just under $ 800 million at the box office and was subsequently rightfully ranked among the classics of world cinema.
Since then, the director has created two very successful films: "Stuart Little" (1999), "Stuart Little 2" (2002), in which a mouse created using computer animation acts in the real (game) world, and two less successful ones: " Haunted Mansion "(2003) and" Forbidden Kingdom "(2008).
