Miranda Hart is an English actress, comedian and screenwriter, five times nominated for a BAFTA TV Award.
Hart was born in Torquay, Devon to an upper class family. Her father, David Hart Dyke, was an officer in the Royal Navy and in command of the ship HMS Coventry, which was sunk during the Falklands War. Her mother, Diana Margaret, daughter of Sir William Luce, former governor of the Aden Colony. She attended the University of the West of England in Bristol, after which she began performing as a comedian on stage before making her television debut in 2004.
Hart is best known for appearing on the BBC's English sitcoms. From 2006 to 2009, she starred in the sitcom No Date and then created her own show, Miranda. The sitcom earned her four BAFTA television nominations. The show was broadcast until 2015. In 2012, Hart also began acting in the drama series Call the Midwife, playing a nurse. The role earned her another BAFTA nomination.
In 2014, Hart co-starred with Melissa McCarthy in her movie Spy, thus making her international debut.
