Andrei Tarkovsky - Soviet film director, actor, was born on April 4, 1932 in the village of Zavrazhie, Kostroma region. Father is an outstanding poet Arseny Tarkovsky. In the early 50s, Andrei studied at the Institute of Oriental Studies in Moscow, and later worked as a geologist.
In 1960 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK. His thesis won the Grand Prize at the New York Student Film Festival. After graduation, Andrei works at Mosfilm. In addition, he staged two performances: Hamlet at the Moscow theater and Boris Godunov at the London one.
Since 1982, Tarkovsky has been in Italy, where he removes the film Nostalgia, and later - Sacrifice, which was already filmed in Sweden. These were the last films with the participation of Andrei Tarkovsky in the person of the director.
The last years of his life Tarkovsky lived in the West, having no desire to return to the USSR, since it was difficult to shoot in his homeland at that time.
In 1985 Andrei Tarkovsky fell ill with lung cancer, and although the treatment was very long, the outcome was unsuccessful. A year later - December 29, 1986 - the outstanding master of cinema dies at the age of 55.
