Full name is Matthew Raymond Dillon.
Matt Dillon was born on February 18, 1964 in New Rochelle, New York, to the second generation of Irish Americans. He has one sister and four brothers, one of whom, Kevin, is also an actor. Dillon grew up in Mamaroneck, New York and attended high school there.
In 1979, assistant director Vic Ramos selected him for his role in Over the Edge. The film only grossed $ 200,000, but Dillon's work was well received.
The following year, Matt starred in two films: as a teenage boy losing his virginity in the youth comedy "Little Ladies" and in the more serious drama "My Bodyguard," in which he played a high school bully. The films were quite successful, which raised Dillon's ratings among teen viewers.
In the mid-eighties, Dillon starred in three films based on Hinton's novels: Tex (1982), Outcasts (1983), Rumble Fish (1983). All three films were filmed in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Hinton's hometown. Dillon worked with Francis Ford Coppola on Outcasts and Rumble Fish.
In 1987, Dillon flashed as a cop in the music video for the Irish and UK hit "Fairytales of New York" by The Pogues and Christy McCall .
Fame came to him after the memorable performance of the role in the film Gus Van Sant "Pharmacy Cowboy" (1989).
Dillon continued to work in the early nineties in films such as Singles (1992). He got a kind of "revival" of his career in the role of husband Nicole Kidman in "Die in the Name" (1995), as well as in big roles in "Wildlife" (1998) and "Something About Mary" (1998), for which he received an MTV. award
In 2002, he wrote and directed the film Ghost Town. Two years later, he appeared in Crash, which won numerous awards including Academy Award nominations and Golden Globe nominations.
In addition to his cinematographic activities, Matt Dillon is engaged in the restaurant business.
