Born January 25, 1955.
The son of French director and screenwriter Jacques Remy. Assayas began his career in the film industry by helping his father direct his TV show. In 1979, Assayas, inspired by the post-punk movement, directed his first short film, Copyright. From 1980 to 1985 he wrote for the magazine "Caye du Cinema", directed several short films and worked with Andre Teschine on the scripts for the films "Date" and "Crime Scene". In 1986, he directed his first feature film, Disorder. In 1994, his film Cold Water was featured on the Cannes Film Festival Special View.
In 1998, he married the Hong Kong film actress Maggie Chun (Miss Hong Kong 1983). They divorced in 2001.
Member of the almanacs "Paris, I love you" and "Everyone has their own cinema" .
Works with cameramen Denis Lenoir and Eric Gaultier.
