David William Thomas was born on May 20, 1949 in St. Catharines, Ontario. Father - John Thomas (1926-1996), philosopher, medical ethicist, chairman of the department of philosophy at McMaster University from 1960 to 1991 ^; mother - Maureen Thomas, church organist and composer ^; younger brother - Ian Thomas (b. 1950), singer, songwriter and actor. Both of David's parents are English.
In 1955, David and his family moved to the United States, to Durham, North Carolina, in connection with the transfer of his father to Duke University. In 1961, the family returned to Canada, to the town of Dundas, where the future actor graduated from high school, and then graduated from McMaster University with a degree in English literature.
Dave started work in 1974 as a copywriter for McCann Erickson advertising agency. A year later, he attended The Second City show and decided to quit his boring job and become a comedian actor. He became a member of the troupe The Second City, and already in 1976 he first appeared on television screens in the television version of Second City Television, where he successfully parodied such celebrities as Bob Hope, Liberace, Al Pacino, Benny Hill, Orson Welles, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Alexander Solzhenitsyn and many others.
In October 2001 he founded the computer animation company Animax Entertainment. In November 2009 he received his Doctor of Literature from his alma mater.
Dave Thomas has triple citizenship: Canada, UK and USA.
Wife - Kimberly Ann Thomas (since May 1, 1994), the couple have two sons and two daughters.
