Parents, Viktor Arkadievich Yelchin and Irina Grigorievna Yelchina, were professional figure skaters in pair skating. According to some reports, they were selected to participate in the 1972 Winter Olympics, but in the end, the Soviet sports authorities decided not to send a couple to the Games. Grandfather, Arkady Yelchin, was a first-team footballer (1946) and a coach of the DKA Khabarovsk.
On September 12, 1989, when Anton was six months old, the Yelchins family emigrated to the United States, where his uncle, illustrator Yevgeny Yelchin, had lived for several years. Later, his father began to work as a figure skating coach (he was the first coach of Sasha Cohen), and his mother was a choreographer of ice shows.
Started acting in films and television series in the late 1990s. Auditioned for the role of Harry Potter.
Anton Yelchin loved to play the guitar and was also a fan of acoustic blues. He attended the Sherman Oaks Center for Advanced Study in Tarzana, California, and in the fall of 2007 entered the University of Southern California to study cinematography.
In 2019, the documentary Love, Antosha ("With love, Antosha") was released.
