He was the eldest of seven children in the family of Valerie Curley and Lee Renner. His mother is Irish, and his father is German.
Jeremy was educated at Fred Beyer High School and Modesto Junior College. In college, attended an acting class with actor David Boreanaz.
Played guitar and sang in the band Sons of Ben.
He managed to attract critical attention after the release of the films "Executioner Dahmer" and "Neo Ned". The Oscar-winning military thriller The Hurt Locker brought him fame and recognition.
