Martin Donovan in Reseda, California, and graduated from Pierce College. He soon moved to New York to start his acting career on screen. Since then, he has appeared in over eighty films and television shows, including five films directed by Hal Hartley. He received the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 1996 film Portrait of a Lady.
On television, Donovan is best known for his role in the first season of Datura. He co-starred with Dana Delaney in the short-lived TV series Pasadena in the 2001-02 season. In addition to this, he has had minor roles in The Dead Zone, Ghost Whisperer and The Boss. In 2014, he starred in the TV series "Lottery" with Marley Shelton.
On the big screen, Donovan has had supporting roles in recent years in films like The Guard (2006), Ghosts in Connecticut (2009) and Silent Hill 2 (2012). In 2011, Donovan also made his directorial debut with his film The Employee.
