Tamala Jones was born and raised in Pasadena, California. In the late eighties, she began to master the profession of an actress, and in 1990 starred in a series of commercials for national television. In total, she has appeared in over sixty television shows and films since the mid-nineties.
Jones made her debut in 1995 with a small role in the film Patchwork. In 1997, she starred in the comedy Call of the Flesh, and then played supporting roles in films such as Can't Wait (1998) and Diamond Cop (1999). However, Jones' career has mainly focused on television, where she rose to prominence for her female lead on the sitcom For Your Love, which she starred in from 1998 to 2002. She previously starred with Annie Potts in the TV series Dangerous Thoughts, based on the film of the same name, and also had a supporting role in the TV series Ambulance.
From 2009 to 2016, Jones played the role of medical examiner Lanny Parish on the ABC series Castle.
