Olivier Gruner was born on August 2, 1960 in Paris. His father and older brother are surgeons, and his younger brother is an engineer. Nevertheless, from an early age, Olivier chose his own path in life. At the age of 11, after watching films with Bruce Lee, Olivier was fascinated by the martial arts and began studying Shotokan karate, and then boxing and kickboxing. At the age of 18, instead of going to university, as many expected, he enters the ranks of the commando troops - the French version of the Navy Seals. There he studied diving, learned to jump with a parachute, learned the basics of mountaineering and many other things necessary for a soldier of the elite troops. In 1981, Olivier retired from the army to pursue professional kickboxing. To pay for his tuition, he moonlighted as a bouncer, ski instructor, coach, and ski lift operator.
He began fighting professionally as a kickboxer in France in 1984. After 10 fights, he became the French middleweight champion. By 1985, his successes in the ring allowed him to focus entirely on his kickboxing career, and in 1986 he became the World Middleweight Kickboxing Champion. Fulfilling his dream of becoming a world champion, Olivier embarked on a career as a model and an actor, the latter of which led to the fact that Olivier has starred in nearly 30 films and several TV shows and a reputation as one of the most disciplined actors in Hollywood. He finds time in his busy schedule for the hobby of piloting a helicopter, for ski trips, and for parachute jumping, and even for his new hobby - surfing.
