Francis Renaud was born on September 27, 1967 in Thionville, northeastern France. His father was a steelmaker, and his mother was a usheeter in the theater. When Francis was 4 years old, his father suffered an industrial accident. The grief-stricken mother gave the boy to his grandparents for a while. Nevertheless, it was his mother who instilled in him a love of theater and cinema and pushed the boy towards an acting career.
