Australian film director Robert Luketic was born November 1, 1973 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Luketic started making films from an early age. When his film won the Best Picture at the ATOM Film Festival, at 15, Robert promised himself that he would be filming his serious Hollywood film project by the age of 30. In 1994 the promising director was admitted to the School of Film and Television Art, Victorian College, considered one of the most prestigious Australian film schools. After a year of study, Luketic has been doing his favorite activity for two years in a row with the support of sponsors, AVID Technology Corporation and Samuelson Film Services.
In 1996, Robert himself wrote and directed the comedy short titiana Booberini, a story about the "ugly duckling" supermarket cashier. The short film won the Queen Elizabeth II Award for Excellence and the Best Film Award at Aspen Shortsfest. After Titsiana Booberini made it to the Sundance Film Festival, Luketic got his personal agent and manager and, of course, got the attention of several film studios.
The Australian decided to move to Los Angeles, driven by the dream of infiltrating the Hollywood film industry. He worked with scripts for two years before making his American debut. In 2001, at 29, Robert kept his promise to himself by filming the hilarious comedy Legally Blonde with Reese Witherspoon. Made for $ 20 million, the film was a huge commercial success and was nominated for a Golden Globe and a Teen Choice Award.
His next project, the 2004 comedy A Date with a Star, grew into the filming of If the Mother-in-law is a Monster 2005 with Jennifer Lopez, who plays a woman who begins to rethink her engagement after meeting with the groom's mother, played by Jane Fonda.
After the comedy with Lopez, the director took up the filming of a story based on Ben Mezrich's book "Hit the Casino". The film Twenty-One is about the real life of five students who developed a unique mathematical system of calculations, thanks to which they won millions in Vegas casinos. The stars of the drama are Kevin Spacey, Jim Sturgess and Laurence Fishburne.
Finally, in 2009, Luketic directed the romantic comedy The Naked Truth with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler, currently re-collaborating with Heigl on his new action film Killers, starring Ashton Kutcher as a star.
Robert lives in Los Angeles with his dog Philip.
