James Edward Franco (born April 19, 1978, Palo Alto, California, USA) is an American actor, director, screenwriter, producer, artist. He began his acting career in the late 1990s, playing one of the roles in the TV series Freaks and Geeks, as well as starring in several youth films. In 2001, he starred in Mark Rydell's television biopic James Dean, winning a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film.
In the early 2000s, he became famous for his role as Harry Osborne in the Spider-Man trilogy. In 2005, he starred in the film The Great Raid, playing the role of Robert Prince, the commander of the Ranger Battalion who rescued prisoners of war from the Cabanatuan camp during World War II. The following year, he starred in three films: Tristan and Isolde, Duel and Lafayette Squadron. In 2008, he starred in the comedy Pineapple Express: Sitting Smoking with a colleague on the TV series Freaks and Geeks by Seth Rogen. He also made a cameo appearance in Nights at Rodant and a co-star in the biopic Harvey Milk.
