Mason grew up in the suburbs of London, Woking, Surrey and attended the Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, where he received the Sir John Gielgud Trust Award in 2004 year.
In 2001, while still a student, Mison took part in the American Conservatory Theater's youth program.
In 2008, Mison and Rupert Friend wrote the screenplay for the short film The Long and Sad Saga of Suicide Brothers, in which they starred. Keira Knightley played the role of Fairy. The film premiered in London in June 2009.
Mison also writes theater scripts.
In the spring of 2014, Mison married Charlotte Coy.
