In late May 2000, Warner Bros. announced an open casting for three leading roles in the film adaptation of JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Only British children aged 9 to 11 were considered candidates. At the auditions, the children were first asked to read aloud a page from the book offered to them, then improvise the scene of the arrival of students at Hogwarts and, in the third stage, read aloud several pages from the script.
Rupert, 11, found out about the casting while watching the BBC News for Children. As a fan of the Harry Potter books (of which there were already three by that time), he took part in the selection of an actor for the role of Ron Weasley. He did not have professional acting experience then. On August 8, 2000, it was announced that Rupert had landed the role. To become an actor, he composed a rap song, how he wants to be in the film, and his mom sent an application.
In November 2001, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone premiered, bringing worldwide fame to Rupert.
After a kind of triumph in the movie "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" Rupert starred in the movie "Thunder in Pants", where he played a genius boy in science.
Has been invited as a guest at the British auto show Top Gear.
In 2011 he starred in Ed Sheeran's video "Lego House".
