William Eugene Burroughs was born in Hugoton, Kansas, to William and Gladys Burroughs. Later, the actor took his grandmother's maiden name for his stage name (so that he would not be confused with other actors). After graduation, he worked as a stuntman in Dodge City, Kansas. Then William entered the University of Kansas, after which he worked on radio in Canada and New York.
In 1979 he began his acting career in cinematography. Took part in the filming of several dozen films and television series.
Widower. His wife, actress Silvana Gallardo, died in January 2012.
