Tenney achieved first notoriety for his role in the production of The Real Thing directed by Mike Nichols. After that he moved to television, where he had regular roles in the short-lived TV series "Law for All" (1990-1991), "Good Company" (1996), "South Brooklyn" (1997-1998) and "Be You" (1999 –2000). From 1994 to 2003, Tenney was married to actress Teri Hatcher and they have a daughter, who was born in 1997.
