In the fall of 1969, in the Scottish town of Paisley, the Butler's third child, Gerard, was born. Since 1971, after the parents divorced, the children were raised by their mother. As a child, Gerard studied karate and played in youth theater. At the age of twelve, he performed in a production of one of the largest theaters in Glasgow.
The young man's parents did not approve of his passion for the stage, so after graduating from school he entered the law school.
