In 1964, Brown went to England to play small roles at the Old Vic Theater, later he returned to Australia and became a member of the Sydney Genesian Theater. In 1977, he made his first film debut, getting a role in the local short film Love Letters from the Teralbe Road. Brian continued to appear in Australian films for two more years. In 1980, Brown also became known to an international audience for his role in the movie "The Breaker Morant". Although he continues to appear in Australian films, he also appears in the American TV series A City Like Alice.
