His father, Samuel Shepard Rogers Jr., was a teacher and farmer who served in the US Air Force (as a bomber pilot) during World War II. Sam's mother, Jane Helen, was a teacher from Chicago.
Sam is the author of several dozen plays.
Sam Shepard is a Pulitzer Prize Winner for Best Drama (1979, for the play Buried Child), Oscar nominee (1984), BAFTA (1985), Emmy (1999) and Golden Globe ( 2000).
