Raphael Barker was born in Ireland to a creative family. Mother works as an artist and loves to sing, and father is a musician and composer. From an early age, the boy studied ballet, playing the piano and cello, as well as acting.

From 10 to 15 years old, Barker lived in Spain, after which he moved to the USA, Washington state, where he was engaged in street dancing and was a member of the St. Colme's Inch, performing gothic rock. Then he went to Italy, traveled a lot around the country and worked as a vocalist in a punk rock band.

Returning to New York, Raphael tried his hand at acting before studying Buddhism and psychology in Boulder, Colorado. He currently lives in California, where he acts in films, dances and DJs.

Barker's first and most significant work on the big screen is the unusual comedy "The Shortbus Club" (2006) directed by John Cameron Mitchell. In this film, the actor played the role of the husband of the main character Sophia (Suk-Yin Lee), who works as a sex therapist and at the same time suffers from the fact that she cannot reach orgasm. For several years, she has been hiding her problem from her husband and finding support in a New York nightclub, whose visitors have intellectual conversations and have sexual entertainment.

After a short break in 2010, Raphael played the main gay character in Scott Boswell's Alien Among Us. In the same year, he acted as a supporting actor in Joseph Graham's drama Bound, which tells the story of a guy who sells his body and is trapped in a homosexual home. Barker admitted that he is proud of his scene in this film.

In 2012, the American actor was the main character in Michael Brodie's debut film Document. One of his most recent projects is the comedy Writer's Cramp (2013), filmed in the San Francisco Bay Area, Barker's favorite location.
