Born in 1962, Golden Valley, Minnesota, USA is an American film director, film producer and screenwriter.
In 1985, he received his degree in English from the University of Minnesota. He then taught at the Minneapolis Community and Technology College, as a visiting lecturer. Until 2006, he worked in the advertising business as a screenwriter and director of television commercials (his work includes advertising for the VH1 channel and advertising for "Got Milk?").
Known for scripts for The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), The Informant (2009) and Contagion (2011), all three stars Matt Damon. Was the producer of the film An Inconvenient Truth.
Worked on Ocean's 12 film, but was not credited. At one time he refused to invest in the film of the Coen brothers "Blood Simple", considering such an investment too risky.
