When Eusebio was eight years old, his father died of tetanus. At the age of six, Eusebio went to school, but the school did not interest him at all, but even then he was interested in football.

At the local Sporting Eusebio, despite being the youngest player on the team, he quickly became one of the top scorers.

During Eusebio's performances for Sporting in Mozambique, the team toured the island of Mauritius, after which they became interested in Porto. But soon the Brazilian team Ferroviaria came to Mozambique under the leadership of former Brazilian national team player Jose Carlos Bauer. It was Bauer who noticed Eusebio and advised him to head coach of Benfica Bela Guttmann. He soon flew personally to Lawrence Markish to assess the talent of the young player. There is also a rumor that Bauer originally wanted to attach Eusebio to Sao Paulo, but the Brazilian club management refused him.
