Vladimir Nikitich Ratomsky was born on July 11, 1891 in the city of Barnaul. At birth he received the surname Laptev, later changed it.

Was an Honorary Polar Explorer, took part in the first through voyage from Vladivostok to Arkhangelsk, which took place in 1914-1915. Sailed on ships Vaygach and Taimyr.

Started acting in big movies in 1950. His debut painting is the Commander of the Golden Star. In the same year, he played a role in the play Wide Steppe, for which he received the Stalin Prize of the 2nd degree. Two years later, he received it again - for the same ribbon, Cavalier of the Golden Star.
