Born April 4, 1957 in Leningrad.

In 1993 he began teaching at the St. Petersburg State Academy of Theater Arts. He completed his postgraduate studies and since 1995 was invited as an acting teacher in the studio of Professor V.V. Petrov. In 2001 he defended his dissertation on the topic "Improvisation in the process of educating an actor", and he was awarded the degree of candidate of art history. In 1999 A. Tolshin underwent teaching and director training at the Drama Institute of Stockholm, Sweden. He also practiced at the Theater Academy of Stockholm and Malmo (branch of the University of Lund). Upon completion of the internship, he received a corresponding certificate from the Drama Institute. Participated in various symposia, conferences and seminars. In 2001 and 2003 he took part in joint projects of SPbGATI and the Eugene O'Neill Center, as well as in joint master classes by Professor M. Westin from the Drama Institute in Stockholm at the courses of professors V.V. Petrov and A.S. Shvedersky ... He published a methodological manual "Improvisation in the process of educating an actor" and a number of articles.
