Born (10) January 23, 1914 in Saratov.
Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1957). People's Artist of the RSFSR (1968) .
Graduated from GITIS (1940). In 1932-1934 - artist of the Saratov theater, then worked in theaters in Makhachkala (1933-1934), Voronezh (1934-1935), Stalingrad (1935-1936), Brest (1940-1941), in the Central Theater of the Soviet Army (1942- 1945). In August 1941 - July 1942 he served in the Red Army. Since 1945 - artist of the Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky.
In cinema since 1956. The first role - Jourdan in the film "Murder on Dante Street". He starred in the films: "The Idiot" (Ferdyshchenko), "The Man from Nowhere" (the head of the police department), "The End of Saturn" (Zavgorodny) and others.
He died on August 28, 1973 in Moscow. The urn with the ashes was buried in the columbarium of the Novodevichy cemetery.
