July 18, 1915 — August 1, 1995 — American actress. & lt; p & gt; She began her career as a photo model, and in 1934, at the age of nineteen, she made her film debut. Over the years of her film career, which lasted until the mid-1940s, the actress appeared in three dozen films, including In Old Chicago. (1937), Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938), 'Little Miss Broadway' (1938), Cruel Shanghai (1941) & Silver Spurs (1943). With the outbreak of World War II, Brooks, along with Una Merkel and Gary Cooper, became one of the first Hollywood stars to go to the Pacific front with entertainment for the US military. & Lt; p & gt; In the late 1930s, the actress dated Cary Grant, and there were rumors in the press about their possible marriage. She was also friends with Howard Hughes, with whom she appeared at social events for some time. In 1945, she married Massachusetts Congressman Torbert MacDonald, with whom she had four children. Immediately after her marriage, the actress ended her film career, focusing on raising children. In 1952, after seven years of lull, Brooks appeared on television in the series Suspense, where she performed her final role. The actress died in 1995 in the small town of Cape Neddick in Maine at the age of 80.
