Born September 25, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York, she played more than a dozen small roles on the big and small screens early in her career before landing the role of Janice The Sopranos in the television series The Sopranos. In 2001 and 2007, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series Drama, and along with other actors won the Screen Actors Guild in 2008. Since the end of the series, she has appeared on shows such as Ambulance, The Medium, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Sister Jackie. Turturro suffers from rheumatoid arthritis throughout her life, and in 2001 she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
