Born November 7, 1960, Portland, Oregon - American musician
Tommy was a fan of the likes of Alice Cooper, Rory Gallagher and Deep Purple, who inspired him to play guitar in the early 1970s. In high school, Tommy met drummer Jamie St. James. After playing guitar in several rock bands, Tommy and Jamie formed Black N 'Blue in late 1981. By that time, Jamie had dropped drums and became the lead singer of Black N' Blue. The Black N 'Blue line-up includes "Woop" Warner on guitar, Patrick Young on bass, Pete Holmes on drums, Tommy Thayer on lead guitar and Jamie St James on vocals. After Black N 'Blue disbanded in 1989, Thayer and St. James formed Cold Gin, a cover of KISS. Even then, Tommy became Space Ace, and Jamie Catman. The group did not go unnoticed by KISS, and they were invited to play at Paul Stanley's birthday party. When Ace Frehley left KISS, Tommy was selected as a replacement. He helped Ace remember his parts for the KISS Reunion tour. With KISS, Tommy decided to keep the Space Ace image. In March 2002, he performed on stage with KISS for the first time in Jamaica. The following month, Tommy appeared at Dick Clark's American Bandstand's 50th annual fashion show as Space Ace. Since then, Tommy has been playing for KISS. Grandiose KISS Symphony concert in Melbourne, Australia, Japan mini tour, Aerosmith tour, Rock The Nation World Tour and many other KISS shows with Tommy.
Tommy has also been involved in the production of various KISS products: Kiss Symphony: Alive IV DVD, The Second Coming DVD, Detroit Rock City film and many others. Tommy was elected to the Board of Trustees of Forest Grove Golf Club, Oregon's Pacific University in 2005.
On March 16, 2008, Tommy sang Ace Frehley's hit song "Shock Me" at the opening of the KISS Alive35 world tour in Melbourne.
