Born September 14, 1960, Hilden - German film director and screenwriter.
In 1979, after graduating from high school, he carried out alternative service in a film club. Since 1981 he has been living in Berlin. At the Free University he studied theater studies and German studies. In 1988-1994 he was a student at the German Academy of Film and Television. During his studies, he worked as a film critic and assistant directors to Hartmut Bitomsky and Harun Faroki, who later participated in the writing of his feature films. In 1995 he directed his diploma film "Aviatresses". Ten years later, his film "Ghosts" was included in the competition program of the Berlin Film Festival, and Petzold himself became one of the leaders of the "Berlin School" and a favorite of critics, who are impressed by both his film erudition and the style of new realism. In 2009, he staged a play based on Arthur Schnitzler's play "The Lonely Way" with Nina Hoss in the title role at the German Theater in Berlin.
