As a child, Simon wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become an Air Force pilot. However, then he became interested in theater, graduated from Studio 68, a theater arts studio in London. He made his stage debut at the Belgrade Theater in Coventry in the production He Bequeathed Her to the Nation. Critics have praised his role in the 1974 production of Pygmalion.
Then he actively worked on television. Among his roles: Sir Thomas Walsingham and Romeo in the melodrama "Romeo and Juliet"; a callous veteran in "Little Boy"; the poet Siegfried Sassoon in Out of Battle; naive specialist from Oxford in the melodrama "Three Weeks" scripted by Elinor Glyn.
He has played a wide variety of roles in a wide variety of British and US films, including the Oscar-winning thriller Death on the Nile, in which he plays Simon Doyle, an avaricious young assassin; fantasy series Quatermass, drama Falcon Crest, adventure drama Riddles of the Sands and horror film Jaws 3 .
Since 1990, he has been a consultant to the executive producer and played the lead role on Counterstrike, for which he was nominated for a GEMINI Award for Best Actor in a Series .
He worked as a producer on the television series Queen of Swords in 2000 and the Canadian television series Adventurers in 2002.
