July 26, 1896, South Bend - June 13, 1946, Los Angeles - American comedian of theater and film.
In his youth, he worked for a newspaper, was fired from there, but then reinstated when information leaked that he was caring for the daughter of a major advertiser. In 1924, Butterworth retired from the newspaper and began to appear on stage, mainly in musicals and vaudeville. In 1929 he first appeared on the cinema screen in the short film "Living Subjects", and the following year the audience saw him for the first time in a full-length film: it was "Ladies for Leisure", where Butterworth played a cameo role as a guest at a party.
In February 1932, Butterworth married a girl named Ethel Kenyon, but this marriage ended in 1939. The last film, in which the actor played, was released in 1944 and was called "Dixie Jamboree" .
On June 13, 1946, the actor was driving along Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. He lost control of the car and crashed. The actor was taken to the hospital, but died the next day. Charles Butterworth is buried in his hometown of South Bend. On February 8, 1960, Charles Butterworth's star was unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his significant contribution to the film industry.
