Born March 16, 1926 - American actor, comedian, director, and writer. He began performing with musical numbers as a child, and as an adult, he adopted the pseudonym Joe Lewis, which he later changed to Jerry Lewis, so as not to create confusion with boxer Joe Louis and comedian Joe E. Lewis. In the mid-1940s, Lewis met singer Dean Martin, with whom he soon organized a comedy duo, which brought them both great success and popularity.
