After school, she entered the University of Washington, where, in parallel with her studies, she was a member of the university's national gymnastics team. She took part in beauty contests. Fascinated by the martial arts, Michaels went to Asia to study them. Subsequently, she began to train under the guidance of the famous martial arts master - Benny Urkides.
Michaels got into the movie thanks to producer Joel Silver, who gave her the role of the beautiful Denise in Rhodey Herrington's film "House by the Road". Michaels' partner on the set was Patrick Swayze, whom she unsuccessfully tried to seduce according to the script. Despite his attractive appearance, Michaels' repertoire was not limited to the roles of femme fatale. Thanks to her knowledge of martial arts, the actress began to act as a stuntman and star in more physically demanding roles. One of the most famous of these roles was the image of the girlfriend of the bandits in the movie "On the Crest of the Wave". Michaels' heroine brutally beat FBI agent Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves), after which the New York Times "christened" the actress as "The babe who nuked Keanu".
