Born December 11, 1961, Chicago, Illinois, also known as "The Munch" is an American bass player, actor, and composer.
As a child, his father, who is himself a drummer, favored his son's passion for music and taught him to play the guitar. Darryl's neighbor, who was a bass player, convinced him to switch from guitar to bass.
Jones attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, but did not give up his bass guitar. One musician, Vince Wilburn Jr., with whom Jones played for the first time in his studio session, turned out to be the nephew of renowned jazzman Miles Davis. He told Jones that Davis was looking for a new bassist and advised him to contact him. After Jones called Davis, he invited the young bassist on tour and acted as a mentor for him. In 1983, Jones was officially accepted into his group.
Working with Davis made Jones famous in jazz circles and got the opportunity to work with other well-known jazz musicians.
After co-founder of The Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman left the band in 1993, Jones began a long-term partnership with them.
