August 12, 1881 - January 21, 1959 - American film director and producer.
In 1912 - together with Jesse Lasky founds the film company J. Laski Feecher Play Co. ”, later“ Paramount Pictures ”. Initially, de Mil planned to become a theater director, but in 1913 D. Laski commissioned him to direct the film "The Husband of an Indian Woman". The first experiment was unsuccessful. De Mille's first success was Carmen, a screen adaptation of Prosper Merimee's short story, adapted to American conditions. The main role in it was played by the famous opera diva Geraldine Farrar.
In 1956, while shooting on location in Egypt for his last painting, The Ten Commandments, de Mille suffered a heart attack from which he never recovered.
