His mother, Louise Armstrong, was a writer and activist. Father, Tom Hawley, was a businessman. Noah has a twin brother, Alexi, who is the writer of The Followers and the creator of The State of the Art.
Noah Hawley graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1989 with a degree in political science. Initially he worked for the Legal Aid Society in New York. Then he moved to San Francisco, where he was engaged in computer programming in law firms and worked as a legal assistant.
