Born 15 April 1940 - English writer and politician.
He attended Wellington School in Sommerset. He continued his education at Oxford Bracenoses College, made progress in sports, then received a sports coach diploma. In July 1966, Archer married his university friend Mary, and in 1967 began a political career - became a member of the London City Council. Further, in 1969, he became one of the youngest members of the British Parliament. In 1974 he was forced to leave parliament due to the bankruptcy of the Canadian company Aquablast, in whose shares Archer invested all his savings. To improve his financial situation, Archer decides to start writing. His first novel, Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less, is partly autobiographical. It was not very popular with critics, but it turned out to be a bestseller in the United States. The next book allowed Archer to pay off all his debts. The novel "Should I Tell the President?" caused a scandal in the US and UK, but at the same time made Archer one of the most popular writers writing about politics. In this novel, Edward M. Kennedy becomes the president of the United States in 1980, and in 1983 a conspiracy is organized to assassinate him to prevent the passage of the personal weapon control law. By 1982, the novel had gone through 14 editions in the UK alone. By that time, Archer was so carried away by writing that he was no longer able to stop: more than 20 novels had already been published under his pen. His novels "Should I Tell the President?" Were published in Russian. (in the Russian edition, the first woman president, Florentine Kane, becomes the president of the United States and the target of the assassination attempt), "Honor of the Thieves", "A Matter of Honor", etc., as well as some stories. Nevertheless, Archer does not give up politics. In 1985, Jeffrey Archer was elected deputy chairman of the Conservative Party led by Margaret Thatcher. But the next year the writer gets into a scandalous story, as a result of which he is forced to leave politics for the second time. Then Archer took up charity work, in 1992, under John Major, he was awarded the title of Lord. In 1997, Lord Archer took part in the election campaign for the office of London Mayor. And again, discrediting facts surfaced in the press, which led to the trial and the expulsion of Archer from the party. At this time, Archer directed the play The Accused and played the main role there. In 2001, Archer was nevertheless found guilty of perjury in court and obstructing the administration of justice, and was sentenced to 4 years. While in prison, Archer wrote and began publishing the multivolume "Diary of a Prisoner," as well as other works.
Jeffrey Archer was released early in 2003 on parole. He is still a lord and retired parliamentarian, actively involved in charity work and continues his literary career. On the eve of 2007, his novel The Gospel of Judas was published, co-written with the Australian biblical scholar Francis Moloney.
