October 2, 1890 - August 19, 1977 - American actor, comedian, member of the comic troupe known as the Marx Brothers. Was born in New York. As a child, together with his brothers, he began to participate in vaudeville, where he developed a stage image, which he did not part with for many years - black painted eyebrows and mustache, glasses and a cigar. He always portrayed a sarcastic businessman and adventurer who constantly gives problems to a respectable society. Groucho and his brothers achieved their first success on Broadway in the 1924 musical I'll Say It's Her. He also made his film debut in the company of brothers back in 1921, but they attracted public attention only in 1929 after the release of the film "Coconuts". This was followed by successful roles in the comedies "Horse Feathers" (1932), "Duck Soup" (1933), "Night at the Opera" (1935) and "Day at the Races" (1937), which brought them immense popularity. In the 1940s, their acting quintet gradually disintegrated and each pursued an individual career. In the 1950s, Groucho was the host of the popular television show "The Stake Is Your Life", played several cameo appearances on the big screen, and also wrote three autobiographies. Groucho Marks died of pneumonia in a Los Angeles clinic in 1977.
