October 15, 1879 - August 13, 1967 - American actress, winner of the "Oscar" (1941) .
In her youth, she dreamed of becoming a circus artist, but her father opposed this, but still the passion for performances did not subside and she decided to take up an acting career. She began acting on stage in theaters in Chicago, and her film debut took place in 1913. In the next two years, the actress devoted herself entirely to cinema, starring in more than twenty films, but after that she returned to the theater. After 15 years of theatrical career, Jane Darwell reappeared in Hollywood in the film "Tom Sawyer", thus starting the second stage of her film career. In movies, she usually got the roles of housewives, mothers of the main characters, elderly aunts and grandmothers. In 1941, Jane Darvell won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Mom Joad in The Grapes of Wrath. In total, throughout her career, the actress starred in more than 180 films, including "Gone with the Wind" (1939), "The Devil and Daniel Webster" (1941), "My Dear Clementine" (1946), "Wagoner" (1950) , "In a Cage" (1950) and many others. Her last role was the old woman feeding the birds in the Disney movie Mary Poppins (1964) .
Jane Darwell received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to the US film industry. Jane Darwell died of a heart attack on August 13, 1967 in a Los Angeles suburb at the age of 87, and was buried in the Memorial Cemetery in Glendale, California.
