Born to Carolyn K. Walton and John Hunter Walton, Jr. He has four sisters: Francie Karlen, Jennifer Burke, Hilary Lehman and Amanda Walton, and two brothers: Will Howie and Burr Howie. David Walton attended Dexter School, a private boys' primary school in Brooklyn. In 1997 he graduated from the private Episcopal boarding school "St. Paul's School "in the small town of Concord, New Hampshire. Walton graduated from Brown University in Providence in 2001. He studied at theater schools in New York and London. Then, in 2002, Walton began acting in films and TV series.
On March 18, 2011, David Walton married actress Mahandra Delfino, the wedding took place in Miami. On June 14, 2012, the couple had a daughter, Cecilia Delphine Walton, on November 10, 2013, a son, Louis Augustus Walton.
