In 1966-1968 he studied at the Academy of Film and Television in West Berlin, in 1974-1984 he was engaged in film criticism, in the 1990s he taught in the USA. Recently taught at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts.
Author of the highly critical documentaries "Someday you will love me too" (1973), "Between two wars" (1978), "As you can see" (1986), "Pictures of the world and the signatures of war" (1988), "Live in Germany" (1990), "Hand Gestures" (1997), "I Thought I Saw Prisoners" (2000), "There is No Risk" (2004, Herbert Quandt Prize, 2006) and others. He shot tapes dedicated to Peter Weiss, Peter Lorre, Jean-Marie Straub, Vilem Flusser.
