In the 1960s, Clapton played with the blues rock bands John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, The Yardbirds, Cream. Later, his musical style changed over time, but he always held on to his blues roots. Clapton has worked extensively both solo and as a session musician. His nickname - "Slowhand" became the title of one of the most successful albums (1977). The most successful single of Clapton's solo career was the cover version of "I Shot the Sheriff" by Bob Marley, which topped the US charts in September 1974.
