November 8, 1898, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada - January 21, 1937, Hollywood, California, USA - American actress.
Her younger sister, Peggy Prevost (1904-1965), was also an actress. The family of the future actress emigrated to the United States from Canada, first they lived in Denver (Colorado), and then moved to Los Angeles (California). While working as a secretary, Mary applied to Mack Sennett's Hollywood Acting Agency to pursue a career as an actress. She began acting in films in 1915, taking the pseudonym Marie Prevost. In her first year on the job, she starred in two films - Those Bittersweets and Traces of His Father. 1936 was the last year of her acting career, this year she starred in films such as: "Tango", "Thirteen Hours of Flight", "Bengal Tiger", "Kane and Mabel" and "Ten Laps to the Finish." For 21 years of work in cinema, Marie played 121 roles. She starred in both silent and talkie. At the peak of her popularity, Marie was married twice: in 1918-1924 she was married to Sonny Gerke, and in 1924-1927 to Kenneth Harlan. Prevost had no children. In the late 1920s, Marie, devastated by personal problems (divorce and the death of her parents), became addicted to alcohol. For some time, trying to deal with constant depression, she completely devoted herself to work, but this did not help and she began to drink even more. By 1934, the drunken Marie was practically out of work, which eventually led her to bankruptcy. At the time of his death, Prevo's estate was valued at only $ 300. Marie, 38, died on January 21, 1937 from heart failure, provoked by years of alcoholism and malnutrition. Prevo's body was discovered two days after her death, after the woman's neighbors complained about the dog's incessant barking from her apartment. The woman was found lying face down on her bed, and tiny bites were found on her legs. As it turned out later, the bites belonged to Marie's dog, Maxi's dachshund, who was trying to wake up her mistress. Marie was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. The funeral was paid for by her longtime acquaintance and former colleague, actress Joan Crawford. The funeral was attended by such celebrities as: Clark Gable, Wallace Beery, Barbara Stanwick and others. For her contribution to the film industry, Marie has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6207 Hollywood Boulevard.
