Ronald Colman - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips, Actor, Writer, Producer.
Born February 9, 1891 in Richmond (England) .
Had it not been for the war, Coleman - in his words - would not have gone beyond the office or the counter of his father, the English silk manufacturer, or, at best, using the patronage of his uncle, would have become a prim official in the Foraine Office (Foreign Office), and only participation in world war and all the vicissitudes and hardships of the Scottish regiment on Ypres showed him life as it is. After a serious illness caused by a shrapnel wound, Coleman leaves the army. The bourgeois-philistine life of the environment in which he revolves loses its charm for Coleman and, despite the protests of his relatives, he decides to devote himself to work in the theater. But romantic dreams of the theater collide with the harsh reality - it is very difficult to get a job in the theater. Only after long and fruitless upholstery of the thresholds of London theater agencies, he finally manages to get a job in the troupe of the actress Ashwell, where he is noticed and he is successful. Like many other film actors, chance comes to Coleman's aid. While touring America, he is spotted by director Henry King, who is looking for a suitable actor for The White Sister with Lillian Gish. The White Sister, according to the idea of ??the Book, was to be staged in Italy. Kolman leaves with the Kniga troupe for Italy, where he also participates in the film Romola. These two films marked the beginning of his fame as an actor. Upon his return to America, Coleman plays with Fitzmaurice in The House of the Dead Man, Vanquishing Flame and other films. His military memories and experiences help him to create in the painting "Angel of Darkness" a stunning image of a man wounded on the battlefield, who is going blind. Coleman's acting is full of hidden drama, tremendous inner upsurge, with an extraordinary parsimony of mimic expression and simplicity of acting technique. He passed away on May 19, 1958.
