Born March 23, 1964, New York, USA - American film director, screenwriter, producer, actor and cameraman. He considers himself a continuer of the traditions of Robert Bresson and Chantal Ackermann. Started working in the film industry as a cinematographer on several independent projects (including Frederick Wiseman's High School) and as an actor (Finding One-Eyed Jimmy, a black comedy starring Steve Buscemi and Samuel L. Jackson) .
He first caught the attention of film critics and audiences in 1994 when his film Clean Shaved was shown at the Cannes International Film Festival as part of the Un Certain Regard program. This film traces the last days of the life and death of a person suffering from a severe mental disorder, who has just left a psychiatric clinic, who is sent in search of his daughter living in a foster family. His story intersects with the police's search for the killer, for whom the detectives take the hero of the film. The film became the best in the work of the artist Peter Green, who reliably conveyed the peculiarities of the behavior of a schizophrenic, and made a shocking impression on viewers and film critics with the cruelty of the scenes in which his hero rips off his nail and peels off his skin. In 1998 he directed the film Claire Dolan. The heroine of the film, horrified by the death of her mother, decides to leave the sex business, in which she previously worked with success. The film was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and was a success at other European international festivals. In 2004, he directed the film In the Hands of God (Kane). The hero of the film (played by Damien Lewis) experiences the loss of his daughter. He is sure that she died in a car accident.
