Born July 5, 1963, Brooklyn, New York, USA - American actress.
Falco graduated from Northport High School in 1981. After graduation, she played in the musical My Fair Lady. She attended acting courses at SUNY Purchase, where future actors Stanley Tuchi and Ving Rhames also studied with her, with whom she still maintains friendly relations. Falco began her career in the late eighties and for the next decade performed mainly supporting roles in independent films. She was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress for The Law of Inevitability (1992), and in 1997 received the American Film Institute Prize for the lead role in The Cost of Living. On television, her career has developed around supporting roles in the series Law & Order, Slaughter Division and Prison Oz, for which Edie Falco has received critical praise for her naturalistic acting style. In 1997, she starred in a television pilot based on the movie Fargo .
In 1999, Falco landed her best-known role in the HBO series The Sopranos. The series achieved unexpected success, and Falco, in turn, was nominated five times for the Emmy for Best Actress in a Drama Series, winning three times. She also received two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in a Television Series - Drama and five Screen Actors Guild Awards. After the series ended, Falco decided to shake off her dramatic character from the series by taking on the comedic role of Congresswoman on the sitcom Studio 30, which earned her an Emmy nomination for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. In 2009, she returned to regular television work with the lead role in the black comedy Sister Jackie, about a drug addicted nurse. The series received praise from critics, but was negatively received by medical professionals. In 2010, Falco won an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series and, upon receiving the award, modestly stated that she was not funny. She has also received multiple Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations for her performance on the series.
